Today, most of us have practiced some form or another of yoga, or know someone who has. We know personally the benefits and life changing good-stuff that comes from it, or have seen that goodness in someone we know. Imagine the power this would have on a little person. When their world is set simply around ours, and ours is one of bustling schedules, and scheduling, and dates, and dates in schedules, and we're doing everything in our power to not freak-out, stress-out, or check-out....you can imagine the chaos, in turn, that can become rooted inside their budding minds.
Yoga for children, simply put, eliminates the chaos. The physical benefits are clear: enhanced flexibility, coordination, strength and body awareness. They develop a new or stronger sense of calm and relaxation, with added concentration and focus. The clarity on the inside is what is truly astounding. In the practice of yoga, children play, exercise, and connect more deeply with the inner self. Bringing to surface that awesome inner light that all children have!
Kid's yoga reflects nothing of an adult class; even though we all reap the same delicious rewards. Children's yoga is charged with laughter, dancing, games, story-telling, arts, and language; an integration that engages the "whole child". An engagement that allows children to make a connection between the nature of their bodies and the nature of their surroundings. All through stretching like a dog, standing tall like a tree, balancing like a flamingo, or laughing like a hyena!
By planting the seed of self, social, and body awareness early, the possibility and probability of that seed growing into a conscientious, well-rounded, and beautiful being is huge. So, in conclusion and as possibly the easiest decision ever, get your kids to yoga!
